weekend adventures: seneca creek state park

seneca creek state park
On Sunday, we were up early and the weather was (finally) gorgeous, so we threw the dogs in the car and headed up to MoCo for a hike at Seneca Creek State Park.

The boys waiting for me to get ready to leave:
(As Larry says, I am the long pole in the tent because I hold everything up...)

Of course, as soon as we got the leashes out, Gravy started running around in a happy frenzy, and Banjo tried to run upstairs to hide (for some reason this dog is scared of riding in the car!)

We took a three-mile hike around Clopper Lake. Beautiful.

I'd never seen so much evidence of beavers - there were so many felled/chewed trees, that I imagined a fleet of hundreds of evil beavers coming out at night to saw down the trees. I do wonder how many beavers it takes to do this kind of damage? And can you imagine chewing down a tree with your teeth?

Oddly enough, we didn't see any beaver dams or lodges during our entire trek around the lake.

It was really peaceful out there...except for the group of teenage punks who amused themselves by yelling the F-word out as loud as possible over the lake. I wasn't looking forward to having to walk past a group of assholes.

Larry: Maybe they're drunk.
Me: Or maybe they're just assholes.

Larry was smart enough to pick up a "walking stick" as thick as his arm shortly before we reached them. Gotta love him for being prepared to protect his family! And luckily, we walked right by without incident.

I love the wide angle shot of the lake and trees (photo nr 5 from the top). It's super calming just to look at...so I can just imagine how calming it is actually being there (well, except for the group of teenagers, that is)!
